Today March 7th, 2024 at 12:00 CET the Orbis Project will hold a workshop centered on the crucial intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, and democratic governance. Organized by Anna de Liddo, Lucas Anastasiou, and Ilaria Mariani, the event promises to discuss the ethical and societal implications of these transformative technologies.

The workshop comes at a time when the influence of AI and Big Data on democratic processes is more profound than ever. As our societies increasingly rely on these technologies, it becomes imperative to address their potential to shape, and potentially distort, democratic governance and communication channels.

The “AI, Big Data, and Democracy Task Force,” comprising projects such as AI4Gov, ITHACA, KT4D, and ORBIS, is at the forefront of this discourse. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the Task Force aims to navigate the complex landscape of AI and Big Data while ensuring alignment with human values and societal well-being.

Drawing from democratic theory and ethical considerations, the Task Force tackles issues of fairness, transparency, accountability, and privacy. Moreover, discussions will explore governance models and innovation theories to effectively manage and regulate these emerging technologies.

CALL is proud to be a partner in the Orbis Project and to contribute to this vital conversation. As we prepare to engage with the challenges and opportunities presented by AI and Big Data in democracy, we invite all stakeholders to join us on March 7th for what promises to be a transformative event. Stay tuned for updates and insights as we navigate the future of technology and governance together.
