IMMACCHINARIUM event: education, ecology and community at Parco Lambro
Envisioning Translocality
Enabling Institutions
Enforcing Practices
On Monday 23 February, Osservatorio per il Paesaggio Fiume Lambro Lucente hosted an afternoon event to present the project “E o Lambro sta a guardare”, developed in collaboration with the Civica Scuola Arte & Messaggio. The event marked a significant public moment in which all actors involved in the initiative came together to share the outcomes of this distinctive partnership between a territorially rooted association and a higher education institution.
Students presented a series of works inspired by tales about stories of Parco Lambro written by members of the association. The educational brief invited them to interpret and illustrate the narratives through a broad spectrum of representational techniques: from coloured pencil drawings and pop-up formats to digital animation software, as well as handcrafted figures subsequently scanned and 3D-printed using bio-based materials. The result was a multidisciplinary exploration bridging storytelling, visual communication, and material experimentation. The students also produced a printed volume compiling all the illustrated works developed during the project. Conceived not only as documentation of the educational experience, the publication is now being further developed with the aim of becoming a children’s book for primary schools, translating the project’s narratives and visual explorations into an accessible and engaging format for younger audiences.
The association also introduced prototypes of beehives designed by Daniele Rocuto, conceived for potential implementation along a defined route within Parco Lambro. Beyond their ecological function, these beehives are envisioned as physical touchpoints connected to the digital application currently being developed by PALIMPSEST for the Milan pilot project.
Special thanks were extended to the Commissione Territorio, Ambiente e Affari Istituzionali – represented by its president Francesca Zanasi and vice president Michele Sacerdoti – for their support of the event and their continued interest in the IMMACCHINARIUM project. Gratitude was also expressed to Eugenio Mugno, director of the Civica Scuola Arte & Messaggio, for promoting initiatives that strengthen the school’s engagement with the city, and to Professor Mintoy and Fabio Romani for integrating the collaboration with PALIMPSEST into the educational programmes of the first- and second-year Illustration and Graphic Design courses. A particular recognition was dedicated to the Osservatorio, represented by its president Gianni Pampurini, and to Ornella Bonomoli, coordinator of Culture and Communication.
The mission of the Osservatorio Lambro Lucente is to safeguard and enhance the area surrounding the River Lambro through the expert contribution of its members and the active involvement of businesses, institutions, and citizens. The association works to preserve the river’s natural ecosystems while fostering virtuous processes of change that encourage more sustainable lifestyles within the local community.
