Planning, Space and Ethnic conflict Illuminating the struggle over Israel/Palestine in Gaza and beyond
On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies (DAStU) at Politecnico di Milano hosted the Research Seminar titled “Planning, Space and Ethnic conflict: Illuminating the struggle over Israel/Palestine in Gaza and beyond”.
The event featured three distinguished scholars from Israel and Palestine, Manal Totry-Jubran (Bar-Ilan University), Oren Yiftachel (Ben-Gurion University), and Omar Yousef (Al-Quds University), who engaged participants in a thoughtful exploration of the intricate relationship between planning, urban segregation, and conflict. The seminar provided a valuable opportunity for shared reflection and drew a significant and engaged audience. The critical role of planning in turbulent contexts emerged as a central theme, highlighting its dual nature as both a tool for division and a potential instrument for organising hope. The speakers shed light on the complexities surrounding the planning process in regions of Israel/Palestine.
The event was organised by CALL – Cities in Action for Learning Lab, under the coordination of Maryam Karimi and Irene Bianchi.
