PALIMPSEST at the JRC Seville ceremony
Envisioning Translocality
Enabling Institutions
Enforcing Practices
On 30 June 2025, our Irene Bianchi represented PALIMPSEST at the official “first brick” ceremony of the new Joint Research Centre (JRC) site in Seville!
This landmark event marked a significant step forward for the New European Bauhaus (NEB) initiative, celebrating the launch of what will be the EU’s first net-positive emissions building.
Hosted by the European Commission, the event brought together architects, scientists, policymakers, and cultural actors committed to shaping more sustainable and inclusive spaces in Europe. The ceremony included interventions by high-level speakers and featured insights into the innovative design approach behind this emblematic structure.
JRC in Seville, located on the Isla de la Cartuja, aims to become the second-largest Joint Research Centre and the fourth-largest of the European Commission.
CALL was honoured to represent PALIMPSEST at this pivotal event, where PALIMPSEST reinforced its commitment to the NEB values and to co-creating regenerative practices that connect people, places, and ecological thinking. As a NEB project, PALIMPSEST shares a common mission: integrating culture, heritage, and sustainability into the urban transformation of European territories.
Big congratulations to the JRC, the design team, and all contributors for their vision and leadership in setting a new benchmark for public architecture in Europe.
