The seminar series “Cities in Action for the New European Bauhaus: Leveraging on culture and arts” invites researchers, artists, and social innovators from across Europe to explore the key concepts that, in the new European Bauhaus framework, provide a direction to urban sustainability transition trajectories.
What is a city’s aesthetics, and how does it affect the urban experience? How can the sustainability imperative be translated into actions on the ground? What makes a neighbourhood inclusive and accessible for all? And more: What is the role and meaning of cultural practices in the journey of cities towards high-quality, climate-neutral and socially inclusive futures?
Given the urgency to create novel alliances and conceptual blueprints across both mission-oriented research and advanced practices on the ground, the seminar series encourages discussion across professional and disciplinary perspectives.
This first seminar explores the multifold value and meaning of aesthetics in cities in terms of the quality of the urban experience and living environment. The role of culture and cultural practices as contributors to the definition of new (aesthetic) meanings to the urban is at the core of this reflection.
