Compost Fest @Bergamo
From May 20 to 26, the first edition of “Compost Fest – Il festival delle scienze ecologiche e sociali del domani” was held . This independent and self-financed initiative blended research and social commitment into an experimental lab spread throughout the city of Bergamo. It was an open space for shared reflection on urban cohabitation, collective care, ecological coexistence, and social cooperation.

As part of this event, on Sunday the 26th, Irene Bianchi and Francesca Berni, together with Paolo Vitali, led the workshop “Progettare la Pedonalizzazione della Città | Designing the Pedestrianization of the City”. Inspired by Francesco Careri’s Walkscapes and Maria Lai’s relational art, we reflected on our habits, mapped movements, and tried to imagine a comprehensive pedestrianisation of the city. Which behaviours should we abandon? What infrastructure and services do we need? How can we ensure that a pedestrian city is also an inclusive city? It was wonderful.
We were very happy to participate in the panel “Mondi più che umani, Movimenti più che social | More-than-human Worlds, More-than-social Movements” and to discuss socio-ecological transition, environmental justice, social movements and non-human actors, agro-ecological experiments, and reparative practices with Andrea Ghelfi (Università di Firenze), Lorenzo Feltrin (Università Ca’ Foscari ), Dario Teani (Organismo Agricolo Demetra), and Riccardo Tucci (Agricultural Entrepreneur). From theory to practice, from Donna Haraway to permaculture, an intense discussion on the need to overturn perspectives and find alternative ways to care for territories and communities.
